Questions clients ask
Do I need to file a Self Assessment return?
Usually yes if you are self-employed, a partner, a landlord, or have untaxed income such as large dividends or overseas income. Employees with no other taxable income usually do not. If you are unsure, ask us and we will check.
What do you need from me?
Your income and expenses for the tax year (6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026), any P60 or P11D, bank interest, dividends and details of any assets you sold. We send a short checklist.
Does Making Tax Digital change this?
If your self-employment and property income is over £50,000 you should already be sending quarterly updates since 6 April 2026. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027. See our guide.
